How you can help
VOLUNTEERING

The day-to-day volunteering duties at the shelter are split into three areas:

  • Cats & Kittens
  • Rabbits & Guinea Pigs
  • Large Animals

These duties, regardless of the area you choose to work in, take place at two times of the day:

  • 9:30am - 11:30am for feeding/ cleaning
  • 4:30pm - 6:30pm for evening feeds

We need volunteers to help with these duties every day of the week in all weathers. We need friendly and reliable people who can work well as part of a team and who genuinely care about animals.

Experience of working with animals is desirable but not essential as training is provided.

Ideally we like our volunteers to be able to commit to a set day (or days) each week but if you can only work on a fortnightly basis or even on a monthly basis then we still want to hear from you as any help is gratefully received.

We are currently desperate for volunteers to help with large animals during the week.

We also need volunteers to help on Saturday & Sunday afternoons when we are open to the public (11:30am - 3:00pm). This role differs from all others as it involves answering the phone, talking people through the re-homing policy and showing people round.

Volunteer socialisers also work weekends only - between 3:00pm and 4:30pm when the shelter is closed and before evening feeds. Socialisers spend time with our more difficult residents - teaching them to trust humans again after what can sometimes be very distressing experiences.

To talk to someone about any of the volunteering opportunities mentioned above please contact the shelter. If there is no-one around to take your call please leave a message as we will get back to you.
