About us

Yorkshire Animal Shelter is a rescue and rehoming centre for stray, abandoned, unwanted, sick or injured animals. The shelter began in 1995 and the current shelter site was established in 2002.

The shelter is run entirely by volunteers and we care for around 100 rescue animals. We are able to care for nearly every type of animal. We currently dont care for dogs at the shelter as we have no kennel facilities just yet.

We have facilities to help up to 60 cats/kittens, 10 rabbits, 10 guinea pigs, 5 horses/ponies, 20 goats/sheep, 2 pigs, 25 chickens and 20 small animals and birds. We are always full and have a waiting list for animals to come in once there is a space available.

We currently only have homecheckers to enable us to rehome to North and West Yorkshire only.

Most animals are only here for a short time and will move on to find loving permanent homes. Please see our rehoming page for animals currently looking for homes - Animals for Rehome

There are a few animals that will remain at the shelter for the rest of their lives, due to ill health or behavoural problems. These animals can be sponsored for £1 a week, please see our sponsor page - Sponsor an Animal.

We are looking to expand in the near future so we can take in more animals, but we can only expand if we have an increase in volunteers and the income to cover the care costs. Please see our volunteer and how you can help pages.
